The current interest owner is now deceased. What do I need to do to transfer his/her interest to the heirs?

Once notified, the deceased owner’s revenue will be held in suspense until the proper heirs can be determined based upon the information and documentation that is submitted to the Owner Relations Department. In order to insure that you furnish us the proper documentation, please review the following to determine which requirements best fit your situation.

A copy of the recorded deed, assignment, Bill of Sale or other legal instrument used to convey the interest to the new owner should be forwarded to the Division Order Department. Conveyance documents must be filed of record in the county(ies) where the well(s) are located. (Download County Clerk Information sheet) Please insure that the legal instrument specifies the exact property to be conveyed and you should provide, if possible, the name, address, telephone number and Social Security or Tax Identification number of each new owner.

How long will it take to complete the transfer of ownership?

Our Division Order Department receives a huge volume of incoming correspondence and it is not uncommon to have 200 cases in various stages of processing. In general, we attempt to review cases on a “first come, first served” basis; however, failure to complete many cases in a timely manner result from a lack of documentation or other required information. Every attempt is made to complete the changes of ownership as quickly as possible.

I have recently been through a divorce and our royalty interest has been awarded to me in the settlement. What to I need to do to begin receiving payments?

Forward a copy of your Divorce Decree, particularly the pages that address the distribution of any mineral or royalty interests, to the Owner Relations Department, along with any new address information and your Social Security Number. (Contact Us)
